Brantley County offers a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to all children, ages 3-21, who reside within school system boundaries and who are identified as having a disability. If it is suspected that a student may have a disability and interventions have been used, an appropriate evaluation is completed by Brantley County Schools. After the evaluation is complete, a placement committee meets to review a wide array of data and determine if the child is a student with a disability based on Georgia Rules and Regulations. If the child qualifies for Special Education services and the parent/guardian consents to services, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed. In order to be eligible to receive special education services, the student must meet the requirements of one or more of the following categories: Autism-Spectrum Disorder (AUT) Deaf-Blind (D/B) Emotional/Behavior Disorder (EBD) Mild, Moderate, Severe, or Profound Intellectual Disability (MIID, MOID, SID, PID) Orthopedic Impairment (OI) Other Health Impairment (OHI) Significant Developmental Delay (SDD) Specific Learning Disability (SLD) Speech-Language Impairment (SI) Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Visual Impairment, including Blindness (VI) Eligibility criteria can be found in the State Education Rules at http://www.gadoe.org/External-Affairs-and-Policy/State-Board-of-Education/SBOE%20Rules/160-4-7-.05.pdf |
